This cute and easy sprinkle puff pastry hearts recipe is perfect for using up leftover puff pastry and makes a great little treat for Valentine's Day!
Valentine's Day is just around the corner so I have a fun Valentine's Day recipe for you today. These cute sprinkle covered puff pastry hearts are really quick and easy to make with kids and perfect for popping in lunch boxes, popping in gift bags for friends or serving up as a fun Valentines treat!
I used some puff pastry that was leftover from another recipe to make these little heart pastries, but you could of course make a bigger batch of them if you have a whole pack to use up.
I must admit this recipe was a bit of an experiment as I wasn't sure how well the sprinkles would bake, but in the course of my research I came across this cute Sprinkle Sticks recipe which gave me the confidence to give them a go!
You can use any colour sprinkles of your choice to customise this recipe, and of course cut your pastry into other shapes if wanted. I used pink and red sprinkles for extra Valentine's fun and found that the pink sprinkles faded a little during baking but the red sprinkles retained their colour really well.
I think it really does depend on the brand and colour of your sprinkles, so if you give it a go please comment below with what brands and colours of sprinkles worked well for you!
Sprinkle Puff Pastry Hearts
Ingredients:
- 150g ready-made puff pastry
- red and pink sprinkles or hundreds and thousands.
Method:
Preheat your oven to 190°C (Gas mark 5/375°F). Line 2 baking trays with grease proof or baking paper.
Roll the puff pastry into a thin sheet.
Scatter sprinkles liberally over the sheet of pastry.
Roll your rolling pin over the pastry to embed the sprinkles in the top of the pastry.
Cut heart shapes from the pastry using a small cookie cutter.
Place the pastry hearts on the lined baking trays, making sure there is a little space around each one for spreading.
Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes until cooked through, puffed up and golden.
Leave to cool for a couple of minutes, then carefully peel from the trays and place on a wire rack to cool for 5-10 minutes.
Serve warm or cold and enjoy!
