Today I'm sharing a fun dog themed sandwich and lunch box with a little video tutorial to show you how quick and easy it is to make!
As you may know if you're a regular reader of the Eats Amazing blog, I do love making fun sandwiches, so when Hovis® gave me the opportunity to get creative with their new range of Good Inside®* Sandwich Thins I was delighted to have an excuse to come up with some new fun sandwich designs!
Good Inside®* Sandwich Thins are such a handy food to keep on hand for packed lunches - I almost always have a pack at home for those last minute 'run out of food' morning emergencies - they can be popped in the toaster to defrost straight from the freezer and have saved me on the school lunch front on many an occasion! As you'll see from this post and when I share more of my ideas over the next few weeks, they're easy to customise too, if you want to get a little creative with your lunches.
This easy dog Sandwich Thin can be served up on a plate for a fun lunch at home (they'd be great for parties too!) or packed in a lunch box for a delicious and fun school lunch.
Dog Sandwich Thin
Ingredients:
- 1 Hovis® Wholemeal Good Inside®* Sandwich Thin
- 1 cheddar cheese slice or filling of your choice
- ½ carrot
- small piece of cucumber
- edible icing eyes
Method:
First split and fill your Sandwich Thin with a filling of your choice. I buttered mine and added a slice of cheddar cheese to fill it. Sandwich meats such as ham or roast beef would also work well for a neat and tidy sandwich!
Next, cut off the corners as shown in the video below to shape the Sandwich Thin.
Peel the carrot, including around the rounded end. Cut off a decent sized chunk, then slice it to get the two ears (see the video below if you're not sure how to best slice it)
Trim to two carrot ears at an angle then pop them onto the Sandwich Thin.
Next take a cucumber and cut off a slice about 2.5cm thick. Slice off a piece of the skin and using a small sharp knife, cut out a small triangle to form the nose. Cut off a second piece of cucumber skin, then use a mini circle cutter to cut out two thin cresents.
Add the cucucmber shapes to the sandwich to form the nose and the mouth (see photo above or video below for placement)
Finish the sandwich with a couple of edible icing eyes. If you don't have any, small circles of cheese or even a couple of blueberries would also work well for the eyes. If you are feeling really creative, you can also make your own icing eyes for use in all sorts of fun food projects!
Below you'll find my quick video tutorial for this fun sandwich and a matching lunch box idea too. Click here if you can't see the video below for any reason, and don't forget to follow the Eats Amazing YouTube channel while you're there for lots more fun food ideas!
When I packed the dog sandwich in a lunch box, I also packed the following foods; carrot sticks and cucumber slices, (put together using the leftovers from creating the sandwich), red and green grapes, cut lenthways to reduce the risk of choking, a small handful of raisins and some mixed seeds. I decorated it with some cute dog food picks and alphabet food picks spelling out 'WOOF'.
