These cute fruity bug oat cakes make great fun and tasty snacks for kids. They're quick and easy to make and would be perfect for a garden or bug themed party!
This recipe is the second of the three fun fruity recipes for kids that I've developed this summer in partnership with Honest® Kids. These are fun recipes that parents and children can create at home together - perfect ideas to brighten up any family summer picnic!
Each recipe has been inspired by the delicious fruits found in the Honest® Kids drinks, which are made from just organic fruit juices, water and natural flavourings.
I've created a quick video so you can see just how easy these fun oat cakes are to create. If you have any trouble loading the video below, click here to watch it on YouTube, and don’t forget to subscribe to the Eats Amazing YouTube channel while you are there for lots more easy recipes, tutorials and fun food ideas! As well as this tutorial video, you’ll also find full instructions further down this post.
Each of the three flavours in the Honest® Kids range (Appley Ever After, Berry Berry Good and Twisted Tropical Punch) contain no added sugar, are low in calories and are sweetened only with fruit juice, making them a great choice of drink to help keep kids refreshed this summer. They're also certified organic by the Soil Association, which means that all the ingredients have been grown and managed without manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers.
Oatcakes make a great canvas for fun food art for kids. Just spread over the cream cheese and encourage your kids to let their imagination fly with the decorations. I created three fun designs for this tutorial - a butterfly, spider and flower, but it would be great to let kids come up with their own designs too, they'll have so much fun creating their own customised snacks!
Fruity Bug Oat Cakes
Ingredients:
- 3 organic oat cakes
- 15g organic cream cheese
- 6 grapes (5 red, 1 green)
- 1 blackberry
- ¼ small apple
Method:
Evenly spread a thick layer of cream cheese on each oatcake.
Prepare the fruit; Cut the grapes in half, cut 2 thin slices of apple for butterfly wings then slice up 8 thin slivers for legs.
For the butterfly:
Place 3 grape halves down the centre of an oatcake, cut side down. Push an apple wing into each side to form a butterfly. Cut 2 tiny slivers of apple for antennae and push them into a grape half with the tip of a knife to form the head.
For the spider:
Place a blackberry in the centre of an oatcake. Add half a grape for the head. Finish with apple legs.
For the flower:
Place the remaining grape halves cut side down on the oatcake to form a flower.
Once they are all decorated, serve the oatcakes immediately.
