How to make nachos in the microwave - this yummy microwave nachos recipe is great for a quick and easy snack!
Did you know you can make nachos in the microwave? For years I've baked mine in the oven, and although that does produce delicious results, for an extra quick and easy snack you can make them in the microwave too.
I had a lot of fun experimenting with this microwave nachos recipe - although they came out just right the first time, I had to try them again... and again - just to be sure! In fact they are so quick and easy to make that I think I may now have something of a nacho problem!
I was inspired to create this recipe by the brand new flavour of microwave slice from Walls - Nacho Chilli Cheese. I'm reviewing the new slices in another blog post today - why not pop over and find out what I thought of them while you're here: Wall's Pastry Microwave Slices - New Flavours Review.
Back to the nachos recipe - I like to make my nachos by dolloping on the sour cream before cooking, I find it melts in with the cheese and makes for a deliciously gooey nacho experience. If you prefer your nachos completely crispy, feel free to leave out the sour cream and serve up up as a dip on the side instead.
When making these nachos for kids, I recommend leaving out the jalapeños - my boys find them too spicy for their taste buds!
I've given instructions for a single serving of microwave nachos, but if you're making them for more people, just use a bigger plate and increase the ingredients to suit your needs.
Single-Serve Microwave Nachos
Ingredients:
- handful tortilla chips
- 1 Tbsp sour cream
- 1 Tbsp sliced jalapeño peppers
- handful grated mozzarella cheese
Guacamole and/or salsa to serve
Method:
Spread the tortilla chips over a microwave-safe plate in a single layer.
Pop in the microwave and cook on high (my microwave is 800W) for 30 seconds to warm through.
Remove from the microwave and spread small dollops of the sour cream all over.
Add jalapeño peppers if using.
Top with a layer of grated mozzarella cheese, spread evenly over the top.
Pop back in the microwave and cook again for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Watch to see when the cheese starts to bubble - that's when they are ready.
Leave to stand for a minute before serving as there may be hot spots.
Serve with guacamole and / or salsa for dipping.
Enjoy!
