In honour of my partnership with DisneyLife – the service that gives you Disney movies, TV, books and music, it’s ‘Disney Week’ here on the Eats Amazing blog! Today, on day 4, I’m sharing my Beauty and the Beast themed picnic.
If you have a Beauty and the Beast fan in the house, (big or small!) they’ll love these 6 gorgeous Beauty and the Beast picnic recipes, with plenty of inspiration from Belle's beautiful yellow ballgown, red roses aplenty and of course a yummy treat or two inspired the Beast himself.
I think this is my favourite picnic of this project, though the fact that Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films might have something to do with that!
Earlier this week DisneyLife revealed the top 20 family picnic spots in Britain (as voted for in a national poll of parents), with Three Cliffs Bay in Gower, Wales in the winning spot and Padley Gorge in Derbyshire coming in a very close second. Nearly all of the parents surveyed (98%) agreed that a family picnic in a beautiful location is one of the best things to do in the summer holidays, and I couldn't agree more!
If you're heading off to a forest location for a picnic this summer, why not bring along a Beauty and the Beast picnic to help make some extra amazing childhood memories they'll never forget!
Back to today’s fun Disney picnic, I’m sharing all the recipes you need for an extra special Beauty and the Beast themed picnic below:
Disney Beauty and the Beast Themed Picnic Recipes
French Baguettes with Brie and Apple
Ingredients:
- 1 small French baguette
- 1 wedge of brie
- 1 apple
- lemon juice
Method:
Half fill a bowl with cold water and add a splash of lemon juice.
Cut the apple into thin slices. As soon as they are cut, pop them into the lemon water. This will help prevent browning.
Leave to soak for a minute or two, then remove the apple from the water and drain on kitchen paper until dry.
Cut the baguette into rounds. Slice the brie. Top each round of bread with a slice of brie then finish with a couple of slices of apple for each piece.
Belle’s Ballgown Crisps
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ Tbsp olive oil
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- 2 tortilla wraps
- 1 tub hummus to serve
Method:
Measure 1 Tbsp of the olive oil into a small bowl then add the turmeric. Stir to combine then set to one side.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (Gas mark 4/350°F). Brush 2 baking trays with the remaining olive oil.
Using a dress shaped cookie cutter, cut as many dresses as you can from the two tortilla wraps.
Spread the dress shaped tortilla pieces out over the two baking trays. Lightly brush each piece with the turmeric infused oil.
Bake in the oven for 5-10 minutes until the crisps are starting to brown round the edges and are crispy. Do keep a sharp eye on them as they cook as they can burn very easily.
Once baked and crispy, remove from the oven and leave to cool for 10 minutes on a wire rack. Serve with the hummus for dipping.
Simple Green Salad with Ham Roses
Ingredients:
- 1 small lettuce
- ¼ cucumber
- 2 spring onions
- 4 cherry tomatoes
- 3 slices lean ham
Method:
Shred the lettuce and place in a lunch box or bowl. Wash and cube the cucumber then set 12 pieces to one side. Add the remaining cucumber to the lettuce. Wash and slice the spring onions and add to the lettuce.
Cut each slice of ham in half, then fold each half to make thin strips of ham. Roll the strips up at a slight angle to form simple roses, then push in a cocktail stick to hold them together. Thread 2 piece of cucumber onto each cocktail stick, one on each side of the ham rose to help hold it in place.
Arrange the ham roses over the top of the salad. Wash and halve the cherry tomatoes and arrange on top of the salad between the ham roses.
Strawberry Roses
Ingredients:
- ½ punnet green grapes
- 4 large fresh strawberries
Method:
Wash and dry the grapes. Thread them onto 4 bamboo skewers, leaving 2cm clear at the top of each skewer.
Place a strawberry, leaves side down, onto a chopping board and make cuts around the bottom of the strawberry to form rose petals. Once you’ve finished the bottom row of petals, cut the next row, moving further up the strawberry each time. Continue until you have made cuts right the way up to the top.
Gently pull the ‘petals’ away from the strawberry to form the rose, then pop onto the top of one of the grape covered skewers.
Repeat with the other 3 strawberries until you have made 4 fruit roses.
