Looking for a fun and easy Halloween dessert idea? These yummy monster scones, which are made using the Tefal Cake Factory, are perfect for a very British Halloween tea party!
The Tefal Cake Factory is a brilliant new baking product from Tefal that takes the guesswork out of baking and makes it really easy to whip up yummy sweet treats.
We first tried it out in the summer with a gorgeous Strawberry Layer Cake, and we were very impressed with how it came out. I was then challenged by Tefal to try making some scones in the Cake Factory, and as you can see, they came out brilliantly too!
To accompany the Cake Factory, Tefal have also created a free app with over 200 recipes and ideas, and this delicious scones recipe is one of them. The app is really easy to use, each recipe has a full list of ingredients and step by step instructions.
It includes a timer too, though you don't necessarily need it as the Cake Factory machine has a timer inbuilt – its five intelligent baking programs adjust temperature and time control to make sure you get perfect results every time, whatever type of cake or sweet treat you are baking.
I put a fun spin on my scones ready for Halloween by adding googly eyes to turn them into monsters, but they would be perfect for any occasion all the year around. Check out the Cake Factory in action in my recipe video below - you'll also find the full recipe further down this post.
The Cake Factory uses 6 times less energy than a conventional oven, so it’s perfect for eco-conscious bakers. It's also great for the hot summer months when you don’t want to heat up the kitchen with a hot oven and it’s brilliant for multitasking too – being able to bake cakes and other treats whilst the oven is already in use for preparing a meal is definitely a bonus!
Easy Scone Monsters
Ingredients (makes 6):
- 250g plain flour
- 1 heaped tsp baking powder
- 2 pinches salt
- 55g cubed butter
- 25g caster sugar
- 50g cranberries
- 110ml milk
To serve:
- 50ml double cream
- 2 tsp icing sugar
- few drops vanilla extract
- 2 Tbsp strawberry jam
Method:
Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt.
Add the butter and rub in with your fingertips until the mixture has the texture of fine bread crumbs.
Add the sugar and the raisins and mix to combine.
Add the milk and mix everything together with your hands, pulling it together to form a ball of dough.
On a floured worktop, roll the dough out to approx. 3cm thick. Cut out six circles from the dough, using a 5cm round cutter.
Place the circles of dough in the muffin moulds ,then place the mould in the Cake Factory and close the lid. Switch it on and set it to the manual mode, setting the temperature to 240°C and the timer to 25 minutes. Press start and leave the scones to bake.
Note: If cooking in a normal oven, preheat the oven to 220°C (Gas mark 7/425°F) and bake for 15 minutes or until the scones are risen and golden.
Once the scones are cooked, carefully tip them out of the mould onto a cooling rack.
Whilst the scones cool, place the double cream, icing sugar and vanilla extract into a large bowl. Using a hand mixer, whizz them together until the mixture is stiff.
Spoon the cream into a piping bag with a large closed star piping nozzle.
Split the scones and spread the bottom half of each scone with strawberry jam, then pipe a generous dollop of cream on top.
Push 2 or 3 googly eye food picks into the top of each scone, then pop them on top of the strawberries and cream bottom halves to make cute scone monsters.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
As I mentioned above, I baked these scones in the Cake Factory in response to a fun challenge from Tefal. The whole family really enjoyed them and I'm looking forward to trying some more recipes from the app!
