Here in the UK Bonfire Night is fast approaching and to celebrate I've put my own spin the the traditional toffee apple with these fun and easy unicorn chocolate apples!
Be sure to check out my recipe video so you can see just how easy these are to make, and look out for more fun bonfire night recipe ideas in the video too!
I'm loving the current trend for unicorn food - rainbows and sprinkles always make me smile, so it seemed the ideal choice to go for when creating some fun new chocolate apples this year.
If you've had enough of all the rainbow unicorns though, don't worry, I've got a slightly more traditional fireworks themed version coming up on the blog this week too!
These white chocolate dipped apples are really easy to make and a fun cooking project for the kids. You can make as many as you need, so they'd be a lovely treat for a bonfire night party, or if you don't celebrate bonfire night, they'd be perfect for a unicorn themed party or celebration all the year around.
In order to completely coat the apples in chocolate you'll need to use quite a lot of it and there will be some left over, so to help you avoid wasting it you'll find several easy recipes to use up the leftovers here on the blog, like these fun pretzel stick sparklers, yummy white chocolate cranberry popcorn, cute banana ghosts or swamp monster chocolate buttons!
Unicorn Chocolate Apples
Ingredients:
- 300g white chocolate
- 3 or 4 small apples
- assorted rainbow sprinkles
- sugar pearls
Method:
Prepare the apples - wash and polish them, remove the stalks, then turn them over and firmly push a cake pop or lollipop stick into the bottom of each apple.
Line a small baking tray or plate with baking paper.
Break up the white chocolate and place it in a microwave safe bowl.
Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30 second bursts, stirring between each one to ensure it melts evenly. Be careful not to overheat or burn the chocolate, heat only until just melted and smooth.
Pour the chocolate into a small, deep bowl - a small pudding basin is perfect for this.
Holding them by the sticks, dip each apple in the chocolate, turning them until they are completely coated.
Allow any excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl, then place each apple on the lined tray, stick side up.
Working quickly, decorate each chocolate coated apple with your sprinkles, starting with the smallest and working up to the sugar pearls.
Place the apples in the fridge to chill until the chocolate is completely hard and set.
To make your apples extra pretty, you can trim brightly coloured patterned paper straws to size and pop them over the cake pop sticks to decorate before serving.
Enjoy!
