Today I'm sharing a simple red and green Christmas snack skewers recipe. This post is day two of the Eats Amazing festive snacks series, which I started yesterday with some simple snowflake tortilla crisps. This series has been inspired by the lovely Amy from Feeding Finn, who is sharing healthy Christmas themed snacks all month long, do check out her blog to see all her amazing ideas!
These skewers are very simple to put together and a fun one to make with children. I chose Christmas colours of red and green for these, and challenged Small Child to come up with the ideas for some red and green foods to put on them. I originally planned to make fruit skewers, but then decided to sneak in a couple of salad vegetables too, hidden among the fruit. I did spot Small Child surreptitiously passing his cherry tomatoes to Small Baby when they were eating their skewers, but it was worth a try!
Red & Green Christmas Skewers
Ingredients:
- 1 kiwi fruit
- green grapes
- red grapes
- strawberries
- ¼ cucumber
- cherry tomatoes
Method:
Prepare the ingredients; peel and chop the kiwi into chunks, wash the grapes, wash and hull the strawberries, wash and chop the cucumber into thick chunks, wash the cherry tomatoes.
Pile the ingredients onto a plate and dig out some skewers. We used some starry plastic cocktail stirrers that I found lying around from my pre-children days, but bamboo skewers or any other skewers would work just as well.
Let the children thread the fruit and vegetables onto a skewer, alternating between red and green coloured ingredients.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
These skewers are great for packed lunches, a healthy snack or side dish and even Christmas party food!
