I'm still working my way through the alphabet at the moment, much to the delight of Small Child, who is really enjoying helping me to come up with words beginning with a new letter for each day. Today's lunch is themed around the letter H, for which he suggested 'Hungry'. Not very Helpful, but better than 'Horrible' I suppose (I'll stop now!).
In this lunch Small Child had Ham spirals (a tortilla wrap, spread generously with soft cheese (I used garlic Roule), layered with Ham, rolled up tightly, then cut into pieces, which we decorated with Helicopter picks, H alphabet picks, a Hippo pick and a Hat pick. On the side he had raw red pepper sticks, raw carrot, cut into Hand and H shapes and decorated with a Hammer cupcake pick, clementine segments and blueberries decorated with Heart fork picks, a 'Hog' container Holding a few Haribo sweets and a container full of natural yoghurt with a swirl of Honey on the top.
I'm exHausted after typing all that. we really did manage to cram a lot of H's in this lunch! Small Child said he really enjoyed it, and left only one Ham spiral and a couple of carrot pieces, which he ate after school. What would you put in a H themed lunch?

Hi Grace,
Which cutters do you use for your alphabet? I have some mini ones (think from Marks & Spencer, but they are really tiny.
I do like the size you used for the carrots in this box.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

Hi, I found these ones on eBay several years ago - I haven't been able to find them since I'm afraid! It might be worth running a search for icing cutters on there - these ones are plastic if that helps at all? They are certainly bigger than the metal ones I've occasionally seen in the shops.

I'd also love to know which cutters you used for your letters. Also I've tried cutting cheese with cutters and it just crumbles. Have you any tips to keep the cheese from breaking? Thanks
Grace says
Hi Ros, I find that the type of cheese used makes a difference - red Leicester is usually quite good as it's slightly less crumbly than cheddar, and the milder the cheddar the less it seems to crumble too. Try using a cotton bud to gently press the shapes out of the cutter little by little - sometimes it just doesn't want to work, I must admit to giving up on cheese shapes occasionally and using carrot instead!

As I was writing up the blog post I realised that and was kicking myself, such an obvious one! Thank you! 🙂
