Today I'm sharing the last recipe in my series of fun Nutcracker themed food ideas. These easy cheese puff pastry Christmas trees are really quick to put together but make lovely festive party food - perfect for a Nutcracker themed party.
You could also serve up smaller individual trees to make a fun Christmas starter, or pile them up on platters to make a forest of edible Christmas trees on your table of Christmas party food!
Cheese Puff Pastry Christmas Trees
Ingredients:
- 1 roll of ready-made puff pastry
- 1 egg
- 50g cheddar cheese plus extra cheese to decorate
Method:
Preheat the oven to 200°C (Gas mark 6/390°F). Spray or brush a couple of baking trays with oil.
Using 3 or 4 different sizes of nesting star cutters, cut out equal amounts of each size of star from the pastry and place on your oiled baking trays.
Lightly beat the egg, then brush a little egg over each pastry star.
Grate 50g of the cheddar cheese with a fine grater and sprinkle over the pastry stars. Try to keep it fairly neat with as much cheese on the stars as possible, but don't worry too much as stray strands of cheese can be snapped off once the stars are cooked.
Bake in the oven for around 10-15 minutes until cooked through and golden. Make sure you keep a sharp eye on them as the smaller stars will cook more quickly - remove the smaller stars once cooked and return the larger ones to the oven to finish baking if necessary.
Remove from the oven and leave to cool a little.
Assemble the trees, starting with the biggest stars and piling smaller stars on top to form each tree.
If your trees are a bit wobbly, you could secure each layer with a small dollop of cream cheese to hold it together.
Top each tree with a star cut from the remaining cheddar cheese.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
If you want to make these in advance, cool completely after baking then store the stars somewhere cool in an air tight container for a day or two. Reheat before serving to freshen them up.
You could also freeze if wanted - make sure you freeze the stars in a single layer before popping into an air tight container or bag once frozen. Defrost and reheat them before serving.

Such a super brilliant idea that is easy to bake. Even though I bake lots of sweet treats I actually prefer savoury. This is fab. Thank you and Merry Christmas. Sammie.

Thank you! I tend to share a lot of sweet treats too, they're often easier to make but I do try to come up with some savoury ideas, I enjoy savoury stuff more too!
