How to make super cute boiled egg animals with full instructions and video tutorials. Kids will love these cute animal eggs for fun and healthy Easter food!
Today I have some super cute boiled egg animals to share with you, just in time for fun Easter food!
I've previously shared my boiled egg bunny rabbits and boiled egg mice here on the blog, but this week I've updated my designs ready for this year's Easter season and added a fun new boiled egg bee to the collection too!
These cute and easy egg animals would be perfect to go with a special meal at Easter or indeed at any time of year - you could add them to a salad (like my bunny rabbit egg salad), serve them up as a starter, take some on a picnic or even pack one in a special Easter themed lunch box.
I've created a brand new video tutorial for each of the three boiled egg animal designs so that you can see how easy they really are to make at home, as well as full written instructions which you'll find below each video. I hope you enjoy these fun egg designs and give them a go - they make a lovely sugar-free Easter treat.

Boiled Egg Bunny Rabbit
Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- red & black edible marker pens
Method:
Hard boil the egg. As soon as it is cooked, remove it from the pan and soak in cold water until it is completely cool. Carefully peel the egg.
With a small sharp knife, slice a piece off the long side of the egg. The flat side of the egg that you have created will become the bottom of the bunny, the piece you have cut off the ears.
Cut the smaller slice of egg in half length-ways, then cut across the end of each half, to form the two bunny ears. If needed, trim the bottom (flat end) of each ear to make it thinner - this will make it easier to slot it into the egg.
Once you have made your bunny ears, place the egg flat side down, then cut a round slit at an angle into the egg for the ears to slot into. Push the ears into place - you may need to use the tip of the knife to hold the slit open whilst you insert the ears.
Dot on two eyes and a nose with edible marker pens - I use black for the eyes and red for the nose.
Serve and enjoy!

Boiled Egg Bee
Ingredients:
- ½ tsp turmeric
- 1 egg
- small piece of sushi nori (dried edible seaweed)
- black edible marker pen
Method:
Mix the turmeric into a small bowl of water. Use a glass or Pyrex bowl if possible as the turmeric can stain materials such as plastics.
Hard boil the egg. As soon as it is cooked, remove it from the pan and soak in cold water until it is cool enough to handle.
Carefully peel the egg, then drop it into the bowl of turmeric water and leave to soak for 10 minutes or until it has turned yellow.
Remove the egg from the bowl. With a small sharp knife, slice a piece off the long side of the egg. The flat side of the egg that you have created will become the bottom of the bee, the piece you have cut off the wings.
Cut the smaller slice of egg in half length-ways, then trim each piece down to form a triangle. If needed, trim one point of each triangle to make it thinner - this will make it easier to slot it into the egg.
Cut three strips from the nori, and wrap around the egg to form the bee's stripes, overlapping and sticking to the bottom. The nori should easily stick to the egg's damp surface.
Place the egg flat side down, then cut two slits in the top of egg (between the nori stripes) for the wings to slot into. Push the wings into place, pointy side down - you may need to use the tip of the knife to hold the slits open whilst you insert them.
Dot on two eyes with a black edible marker pen.
Serve and enjoy!
NOTES: Nori is an edible seaweed used for making sushi, comes in sheets ready dried and can be found in most big supermarkets or Asian supermarkets. If you buy it just to try this recipe, why not also try my easy rainbow vegetable sushi, rice pandas or rice penguins too!

Boiled Egg Mouse
Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- 1 small carrot
- red and black edible marker pens
Method:
Hard boil the egg. As soon as it is cooked, remove it from the pan and soak in cold water until it is completely cool. Carefully peel the egg.
With a small sharp knife, slice a piece off the long side of the egg. The flat side of the egg that you have created will become the bottom of the mouse, the piece you have cut off the ears.
Take the smaller slice of egg and cut it in half widthways. Use a mini circle cutter to form two ear shapes from the pieces of egg, with a flat edge on each one.
With the tip of your knife, cut two semi-circular slits into the egg where the ears will go. Trim the ear pieces down to form a thin wedge on the flat edge and slot them both into the slits in the egg - you may need to use the tip of the knife to hold the slit open whilst you insert the ears.
Cut 6 tiny sticks from the carrot for the whiskers. Push three in on each side of the mouse's 'face' to form the whiskers.
With the edible marker pens, dot on a nose and two eyes.
Finish the mouse off with a carrot tail, pushed into the back of the egg.
Serve and enjoy!
