This quick and easy Star themed lunch is perfect for a Christmas themed packed lunch for kids this festive season!
One of my favourite things about this time of year now that Small Child is at school is the annual nativity play. Last year, complete with baby bump (and the hormones to match), I was in tears at the sheer cuteness of the occasion.
This year I managed to restrain myself; the distraction of a baby bouncing up and down in my lap was enough to keep the emotions in check, but it was still a wonderful performance and I felt very proud of my beautiful boy.
He was playing a star this year, a fact which precipitated me posting a panicked question on various social media sites the night before his costume needed to be in school - how on earth are you supposed to attached tinsel to a T-shirt?! Thankfully I was overwhelmed with helpful suggestions, and one of them even worked (hot glue, in case you're wondering)!
I was very proud of my first ever attempt at a home made costume, and Small Child loved it. In fact, since it has come back home from school he keeps putting it on and wandering round the house in it!
A star lunch seemed the only suitable response to this! In this lunch Small Child had a couple of leftover homemade pizza slices, (topped with pepperoni, red pepper and mozzarella), cut into star shapes with a cookie cutter and decorated with alphabet picks spelling out 'STAR'.
On the side he had raw organic carrot and yellow pepper, cut into star shapes using a mini bento cutter, an apple, cored, sliced and dipped in orange juice to prevent browning, and some red grapes, decorated with a star food pick.
I also packed a reusable food pouch full of organic vanilla yoghurt (not shown). I'm now wondering what Small Child will be cast as next year - a camel or a donkey might make for a slightly trickier themed lunch!
