As I'm now packing two lunches each day, I thought it might be useful to share how I'm making lunches for two different ages at the same time - my older son is now 9, and my younger son 4. These easy dinosaur lunches were thrown together in just a few minutes, and as you'll see, they're similar but slightly different to suit their different tastes and appetites.
These simple dinosaur themed lunches were made fun with a few little touches that took less than a minute of extra time - cutting the cucumber in a fun pattern (this also works for kiwi fruit - check out my fun kiwi fruit dinosaur eggs!) and adding bento food picks and cupcake rings to decorate.
The first dinosaur lunch was packed for my 4 year old. He has a roast beef sandwich on seeded bread, made with just one piece of bread. As he's at the 'nibbly little bits' stage, I also packed him 2 or 3 ritz crackers with a couple of slices of cheese. On the side he had a piece of cucumber (cut in a zig-zag pattern and decorated with a 'D' for dinosaur alphabet bento pick), some sugar snap peas and some green grapes, which I cut in half to reduce choking risk. I packed this lunch in a square divided Lock & Lock lunch box, which is the perfect size to hold a preschooler's lunch, and decorated it with dinosaur cupcake rings.
The second dinosaur lunch was packed for my 9 year old. He got a sandwich too (ham), but with two pieces of bread as he has a larger appetite. On the side he had a slightly larger piece of cucumber, also cut in a zigzag pattern and decorated with an alphabet letter pick, sugar snap peas, a plum and some green grapes. His lunch was packed in an Addis compartmented lunch box and was also decorated with dinosaur cupcake rings.
The boys went off very happily to school this morning with their dinosaur lunches, I hope they enjoyed them!
