Good morning, I hope you all had a lovely weekend! It was Mothering Sunday yesterday, and I was thoroughly spoilt with a lie-in, breakfast in bed, a handmade card and flowers from my lovely boys! All this means that Easter must be just around the corner, in fact due to Easter falling late this year, the Easter holidays begin at the end of this week for us, eek! This has led me to break out the Easter supplies and start making some Easter themed lunches, with today's lunch having a chick theme.
In this lunch Small Child had leftover home made potato wedges, a hard boiled egg (which was a bit of an experiment, so I'm pleased with how it turned out!), organic natural yoghurt, topped with some yellow sprinkles, half a kiwi fruit, cut open in a zig-zag pattern with a sharp knife, chopped dried apple rings, cucumber and raw carrot slices, cut and arranged in an attempt to look like a chick peeping out of an egg (it did originally have a beak too, it must have fallen off!), and finally some dried apricots. I decorated the lunch with these super cute duck and egg picks, and added a hen spoon from our mini bento cutlery set. To make the egg, I cut around the whole egg with the tip of a sharp knife in a zig-zag pattern, being careful not to go all the way through. Once I'd got all the way around, I carefully lifted the top of the egg off, leaving the yolk intact. I added eyes to the yolk with an edible marker pen and small triangle beak cut from carrot. I popped it in a yellow silicone cup to hold it in place - Small Child loved it!
I recently found and bought some cute plastic shaped eggs, one of which was chick shaped, so I filled it with raisins and a couple of mini rice cakes and popped it into his lunch bag as a little after school snack.
As I'm getting into the mood for Easter, planning lovely Easter themed food and games for the holidays, I thought it would be fun to have a little Easter giveaway too, so I've gathered together some supplies to help one lucky winner make some brilliant Easter themed food.
The prize consists of one set of Easter themed cookie cutters, one Easter themed cupcake decorating set (perfect for bento and snacks as well as cakes!), one egg shaped silicone mould, and one set of lamb and chick cup cake rings (3 lambs, 3 chicks). All items are brand new and unused and will be posted free of charge to the lucky winner.

We always have an Easter tree with real blown hand painted-by-the-family eggs and various very lovely painted eggs that I've accumulated over the years. Not this year though because we will be away!

I always paint boiled eggs with my children then organise an egg hunt around the garden or our home depending on the weather! I always make Easter cards with them too. Those are two things my mum always did with me and my siblings when we were growing up so I have always done it with mine!

This Easter will be our first with lil bub. I don't really have any cash at the moment but I have plenty of craft supplies to use up and have been collating a few ideas on a Pinterest board. I am definitely going to try to continue the tradition of my childhood - painting a hard boiled ostrich egg for Easter morning breakfast. If I can find one...I'm not so sure they still do them anymore - sounds pretty exotic! Otherwise your average free range chicken eggs can get painted up for some token Easter snaps before getting promptly demolished. There will be bunny ears too - of course.

Wow, an ostrich egg sounds amazing!

I don't really have any Easter traditions currently, but i've got a feeling that we will be starting some when my niece is old enough!

I never had any Easter traditions but will begin this year by hosting Easter Brunch for my side of the family. My family and my in-laws all live in the same town so splitting the Easter dinner between the two was tough until now!

What a fun lunch! Can you start making lunches for me, too? 😉
We don't really have any Easter traditions. We always did the Easter basket thing... but that's about it. No big meal, no other excitement. My birthday is around or on Easter a lot since my birthday is 4/11. My mom's is 4/14 and my sister's is 3/29 so we have a lot going on around that time. 🙂
Grace says
Thank you! Small Child and I both have birthdays around Easter too, it's always a pain when they fall in Lent and I've given up something yummy like chocolate!

that is amazing what you have done with that boiled egg! Our Easter tradition is visiting Granny and Grandad for a roast dinner followed by an Easter egg hunt around the garden. Its pretty much the only time of year we get invited round for a meal because of J's difficulties in using cutlery so it is really special to see grandad go to all the effort of doing something really nice for the kids and seeing him all excited about setting up the egg hunt.
