Following on from my recent green lunch, I thought that it would be fun to pick another colour to base a lunch on. Today's chosen colour was yellow, as it was fairly easy to find yellow foods to pack!
In this lunch Small Child had some plain pasta shapes, left over from dinner the night before. I added cubes of cheddar cheese, strips of roast chicken breast and some sweetcorn, and told Small Child that he could mix them all together if he wished, to make a pasta salad.
On the side he had a chunk of banana, with 'YELLOW' rather inexpertly carved into the skin using the tip of a sharp knife, and some grapes. I added extra yellow to the lunch with a triangle silicone cup, square silicone cup, a yellow silicone divider, yellow mini bento fork and various yellow food picks.
Small Child enjoyed his yellow lunch, eating all of it up! He said he preferred to eat everything separately, so he had his pasta plain. I think that's the great thing about this kind of lunch - it gives a child a feeling of control over how they eat their food, making it more likely that they will actually eat it. That's just my theory, but it certainly seems to work for us.
