I was absolutely delighted to receive some new FunBites cutters from a friend recently – including the new Triangle Cutter. This made it easy for me to try another new idea I’ve seen recently – ‘Pizza Salad’. Small Child isn’t a massive fan of salad, though he will eat it, but replace the lettuce with pizza, and you’re on to a winner! I realise that it doesn’t sound hugely healthy, but I used some leftovers of my own homemade pizza (a recipe and tutorial can be found here) and added other healthy ingredients to make it a balanced meal. I thought it was a really fun new way to present pizza; I just wish I could remember the clever person who came up with it!
In this lunch Small Child had a small homemade cheese and tomato pizza (cut into triangles using the FunBites Triangle cutter), chopped roast chicken, raw yellow pepper, also cut up using the FunBites cutter, and some raw carrot pieces. On the side he had some fresh strawberries and pineapple, and a silicone cup full of yoghurt covered fruit flakes at his request. Small Child decorated his lunch himself with a liberal handful of food picks and cupcake toppers. I also gave him a cute little bento fork to eat his ‘salad’ with.
This lunch went down very well, with only a few pieces of carrot left at the end of the day.
