Ladybug Themed Food Ideas for Kids

Today I'm sharing a few fun ladybug themed food ideas for kids.  Actually I usually call them ladybirds, but apparently Google likes ladybug better...!

Still, ladybug or ladybird, they're still very cute and make for some great themed food! I've used these some of these ideas to go in creative bento lunches, but you could also make them for lunches at home, snacks or cute kids party food ideas.

Loads of ladybug themed food ideas for kids - great for party food healthy snacks and packed lunches - from Eats Amazing UK

First up is a simple ladybug sandwich.  This is so easy to make, with minimal equipment needed.

Start by making a round sandwich (I used the largest of my nesting circle cutters).  Take a piece of cheese (I used a slice of Leerdammer), and cut it into a circle using the same cutter as for the sandwich. Using a smaller circle cutter, remove a semi-circle for the head.  Using a sharp knife, cut a triangle down the middle and remove.  Using a tiny circle cutter, cut holes for the spots and remove.  Lay the cheese over the top of the sandwich.

If the sandwich is going in a lunch box, you might want to stick the cheese down with a few dabs of cream cheese, houmous or mayo.  Take a couple of the mini circles of cheese from the dots and place on the sandwich as eyes.  Finish off with polka dot bento pick antennae if wanted.

Next is a cute ladybug made from a mini Babybel cheese. This was also very easy to make, by cutting the design into the wax and removing some of it.  I started by using a small bento circle cutter to cut a piece of wax from one end and removing it to make the head. I then used a small sharp knife to cut a triangle into the wax and removed it to create the space between the wings. Finally I use a tiny circle cutter to cut the dots from the wax.

You could also try using a plastic straw to cut the dots if you don't have a cutter. As with the sandwich above, I finished the ladybug off with a couple of polka dot bento picks.

Both of the above went into a fun ladybug bento lunch that I made for Small Child recently.  As well as the sandwich (on wholemeal seeded bread filled with ham and houmous), I also packed raw red pepper and organic carrot sticks, the Babybel ladybird, strawberries and blueberries decorated with a cute ladybird cupcake pick and 3D flower and leaf bento picks and some raisins, topped with a chocolate bug treat.

This lunch was packed in our Yumbox Panino bento box, and I finished it off with a couple of silicone lettuce leaves to help hold the sandwich in place.

I made a similar ladybug lunch around Valentines day earlier this year, for this lunch the sandwiches were 'love bugs' as I cut out heart shapes instead of round dots.  You can find full details of this lunch over on the original blog post here: Valentines bento box ideas.
