Another lunch from my archives – I wonder how our morning routine will change now that I have Small Baby to manage as well? Only a couple of days left until I find out!
This lunch was made when I was having ‘one of those mornings’, when we had somehow managed to lose about half an hour and were therefore in danger of being very late for school. Usually, our school day morning routine goes something like this; at 7.45am we go downstairs, having got up, got washed and dressed, and we have about 45 minutes until we have to leave at 8.30 for the walk to school. In that time I make breakfast for myself and Small Child, eat it, make his packed lunch, take photos, round up his various belongings (school bag, scooter etc), do battle with him on the subject of putting his shoes/coat on and somehow get us out of the door at 8.30. This particular morning however, I suddenly realised it was 8.15 and all we had managed to do so far was eat our breakfast, and I hadn’t even thought about making lunch yet. The fact that we still managed to leave the house at 8.30 on the dot goes to prove that I really don’t spend as much time as you might think on my lunch making activities!
In this lunch Small Child had a ham sandwich, with a car cut from the top slice of bread using a cookie cutter, and decorated with a couple of yellow pepper ‘wheels’. On the side he had a Babybel cheese with a steering wheel design cut from the wax, raw carrot and raw yellow pepper ‘wheels’, and some red and green grapes. I quickly shoved in some traffic themed cupcake picks to decorate, and the lunch was ready to go.
I have some gorgeous vehicle themed gel ice packs, so of course I had to use them in his lunch bag to maintain the theme whilst keeping his lunch cool.
I was very pleased to get to school on time that day, considering the bad start!
