We’re currently in the middle of our half-term holiday, so no packed lunnches this week, but here is one from my archives. This lunch came about after Small Child was playing with my stash of bento goodies, when he found a little dolphin that came in my bento Secret Santa gift from the lovely Shannon at Molly’s Lunchbox. He wanted it to feature in his next lunch, so we decided it was time for another ‘Under the Sea’ themed lunch. Small Child got very involved in this lunch, choosing cutters and helping me to cut out the carrot & cucumber shapes.
In this lunchbox Small Child had pitta pockets, stuffed with ham & salad (lettuce and cucumber), and decorated with pirate flags, to turn them into boats, with the dolphin frolicking with mini carrot fish underneath them. On the side he had some cucumber boats and carrot shapes (starfish and fish). He also had a small handful of plain popcorn decorated with a toy starfish.

For dessert he had a small apple, cored, halved and carved with a whale and some fish (they didn’t come out brilliantly in the photo, sadly, but looked a little more recognisable in ‘the flesh’). As usual the apple was brushed with a little lemon juice to prevent browning. He also had a kiwi fruit cut into star fish, and some yoghurt covered strawberry fruit flakes with a little gemstone pick (treasure!).

He had a frozen organic apricot yoghurt tube as well (not shown). Everything was eaten, so I’m guessing he enjoyed this lunch!

Such a wonderful lunch! I think it is especially rewarding to work with a child on a theme.
Thanks Kathy, it was lots of fun!
