Small Child was recently delighted to have Dinosaur Pie for lunch! I was making our dinner (a variation on cottage pie involving chilli con carne topped with cumin spiced mashed parsnip) and was wondering whether there was a cute way to present leftovers for Small Child’s lunch. Inspiration struck when I spotted my dinosaur shaped silicone cups in my bento stash, and I made him up a mini pie to cook alongside the main pie dish that we were having for dinner. In my experience cottage pie is delicious cold as well as hot, so I thought it would work well for lunch.
In this lunchbox Small Child had his dinosaur pie, raw carrot disks cut with a crinkle cutter, red pepper sticks topped with a dinosaur pick, and a small handful of oddities (mini cheese crackers) in a silicone cup.

For dessert he had some chopped fresh pinapple and blueberries, some yoghurt covered fruit flakes in another silicone dinosaur cup, a couple of organix mini oat bites and a chocolate (dinosaur) egg. He also had a frozen organic peach yoghurt tube and I added a couple of dinosaur picks to decorate.

There was nothing left of this lunch, so I’m guessing that the dinosaur pie went down well with Small Child!
